I’m so serious being a housewife does something to your brain. Like every time I speak with a housewife I’m like there’s no way you were always this stupid and ignorant
I’m serious and I’m not trying to be mean here. I’ve met dozens who are moms and grandmas in my and friends’ families. I’ve worked with hundreds at my job. And they nearly all have a common demeanor being impatient, anxious, easily confused, and ignorant of basic facts about the world with an irritated unwillingness to learn. I refuse to believe that it’s simply a case of there being a certain type of woman who becomes a housewife when the power structures of patriarchy made that role a necessity for survival. Someone in the comments made the connection to the fact that decades of acting dumber than you are is an easy habit to never stop after a long time, which is true but I think puts too much of an emphasis on these women’s agency.
To speak in terms more offensive than intended, these women act like caged animals. They are docile and quiet when their husband’s or really any authority figure is talking. Simple frustration from those around them leads to severe anxiety which is either expressed as a refusal to engage or as overly apologetic. When challenged or presented with an opportunity to learn they become extremely overwhelmed and confused by instructions as simple as “call this number” or “locate the log in button”.
The level of anxiety and dimissal of their own skills these women have can only be explained by the role they have been forced into. Domestic violence is clearly a large and normalized factor. But even in cases where a woman has never been struck by her husband, there is violence and power inherent to being told to be silent when men are talking, laughed at and chastised for expressing an opinion, or being expected to do all the cooking and cleaning.
Most of these women were born and married well before women could even open a bank account on their own. Even without physical violence, the basic threat of homelessness and poverty is inherent to this particular structure of patriarchy. Even today as there are more legal protections the social expectation and inherent exploitation of capitalism make it one of the only options especially for rural women.
I really only have my reference point of primarily the rural midwestern US but this cannot be limited to this one particular region. There has to be something that happens on a base brain chemistry level after decades of being told to be quiet, that you are stupid, and must be subservient. Of having the primary enforcer of that system being the man you love and raise your children with and the community you grow up and make friends in. How could it fucking not change you on such a base level

China plans to cap the annual salaries of financial workers at around 3 million yuan (US$412,460), as the government doubles down on its campaign to eradicate extravagance and hedonism from the industry and narrow the wealth gap amid a persistent downturn in economic growth, according to people familiar with the matter.

ok, so if i get it correctly, all state-backed financial institutions will lose their best and good and relatively good employees, because they will migrate to privately owned companies, where this cap doesn’t exist
which means that state backed financial institutions will be run by mediocre and low knowledge employees
what could go wrong

You mean to tell me that the people who are only interested in the field for ungodly amounts of money instead of supporting broader macroeconomic policy goals won’t be taking up space & undermining state policies, leaving room for those who would align with the goals of the state to take their place?

This cartoon (which I encountered today on twitter but which is widely shared on the internet for obvious reasons) is sourced to the satirical German newspaper Kladderadatsch. Minnie Mouse premiered as a character in 1928, and Kladderadatsch, which started to take on a right-wing nationalist slant in 1923 and eventually became a Nazi rag, ceased publication in 1944. I haven’t been able to track down a more exact date for the cartoon, but doing the math here… it is likely that this image could fairly be characterized as actual anti-furry Nazi propaganda.
